First Annual Report

Well, we set ourselves a target of making 2 low budget short films, and we did exactly that. Our first production, ‘One for the Road’, (or ‘Ane Tale of Twa Vampyres’) was made in conjunction with the Edinburgh Mediabase 48 hours scheme. Mediabase were kind enough to award us with 24 hours free equipment hire and 24 hours of time in their edit suite, and our resulting short was shown at ‘the Blue Room’ in the Cameo Cinema in November 2002.

The film is 5 minutes long, and tells the story of 2 vampires who meet by accident in an Edinburgh backstreet, and go on to a party where they swap their tales of the past 50 years ‘drinking’ and debauchery. 2 gallons of fake blood later, they meet their doom. The moral of the story? Excessive drinking and exposure to sunlight may be bad for your health… but it will protect you from vampires!

Our second film – ‘Hod’ - is now in post-production. It’s a 10 minute mockumentary about a man who collects bricks. Strange, yes, but not as strange as the reason why! Oh, the tragedy…

We have also bought the rights to a 15 minute short film, co-written by my partner (and co-founder of Slouch Potato Productions) Brian Robinson and myself, ‘Little Tommy Tummy’. It’s a dark nursery tale – aren’t they always the best ones? – about a little girl and her toys, and we hope to be bringing the film to life soon.

Our website

We finally managed to get our website up and running in January 2003, and we own the domain names ‘www.slouch-potato.co.uk’ and ‘www.slouch-potato.com’. Initial feedback on the site has been very positive, and we hope to make more active use of our web presence in the coming year.

How we’ve spent our money

Well, as we expected, we made an overall accounting loss for the year. All our expenditure has been funded by capital injection by the co-founders of the company. But, as anticipated, we ended the year with a positive bank balance, and with a net surplus of assets over liabilities on our balance sheet. Onwards and upwards!
